Calamity Jane
This scooter was built by Cheryl during lockdown and she was singing along to Doris Day songs all the way through??
I will let Cheryl explain:
“I helped Midge build my scooter in lockdown covid 19.
It worked well with being off work during covid listening to musical tunes on Radio 2.
Doris Day come on a few times, “Whip-Crack-Away” in the secret facility (garage).
I am a fan of Doris Day and I loved the film from being a young girl.
My Dad was a wild west fan and owned a kepy hat and a Winchester just like Calamity Jane owned.
I use these on my Custom displays.
I purchased the badges from America for my saddle bag which are the G company and number 5.
The artillary badge which Calamity Jane has on her kepy hat in the film.
It was good fun desiding which pictures to use for the murals.
Colin worked his magic and he did an amazing job”.

Riding a Lambretta that you feel sat in is a great feeling.
It was my means of transport in the 80’s.
I rode my Indian GP 150 Lambretta at 8 months pregant, It was handy having a
snetterton seat, plenty of room for my bump.
Bet I got some funny looks back then.
My daughter now rides a classic scooter, must be in her blood.

Starting the scooter at the petrol station is a challenge. Do you turn the chalk on? Turn the petrol on ??
All good fun!
What are some of the most mistakes you/people make when restoring scooters?
Dry build helps to know if parts are going to fit.
A flash on my panel snapped when Midge was fixing it on, so I had to get new ones. Yes you got it, Midge had to drill a few new holes as they are never seem to line up the same. Scary work, watching whilst i had to hold the flashes! Phew Midge did a great job.
What specific advice would you give to someone who is considering restoring a vintage scooter?
Make sure you have all your parts that are going to paint at the same time to avoid disappointment,
if you can’t get a colour match.
Know what engine parts you want to use.

Along a seafront when you have an audience, Isle of Wight roundabout and down the front at full throttle has to be the best buzz you will ever have on a scooter.
How do you see as the future going with regards to scooters?
I will never sell my scooter and I hope people do the same. There will be more autos on the road in years to come as we all know that.
Please share a funny or interesting story that for you wasa special moment., or something our audience might enjoy.
A special moment when my scooter was about to be published in Scootering magazine, a gentleman called Gary got incontact with me to tell me his Grandad bought him my scooter when he was 16. Gary recognised his scooter during covid that he used to own.
Gary recognised the reg plate on the mudguard, HDT, looks like HOT.
Whilst on the Isle of Wight I had to enter the biggest Scooter event, Custom Show and Gary
come looking for me! Gary finally saw his scooter in the flesh he owed in the 70’s.
Gary went on to write a great article in Scootering and won himself a prize.
Loved every minute of owning a custom scooter and I have met so many great people and seen people who really care about their classic scooters
